India and Egypt Strengthen Cooperation in Skill Development and Technical Education

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), Government of India, recently hosted a high-level Egyptian delegation at Kaushal Bhawan, New Delhi. Led by H.E. Prof. Dr. Ayman Bahaa El Din, Deputy Minister of Technical Education, the meeting marked a key milestone in the growing India-Egypt strategic partnership, further building on the momentum from 2023 when bilateral ties were elevated and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi received Egypt’s highest civilian honour.

During the discussions, Shri Atul Kumar Tiwari, Secretary, MSDE, emphasized the strong people-to-people and institutional linkages between India and Egypt. Highlighting India’s ambitious vision to become the “Skill Capital of the World,” he noted that under the Skill India Mission, nearly 400,000 individuals have been trained in cutting-edge domains such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and big data, alongside the nurturing of over 1.3 million entrepreneurs.

India’s efforts to align its Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) ecosystem with international standards were showcased, particularly through the development of world-class Skill India International Centres aimed at fostering global collaboration.

The Egyptian delegation shared insights into Egypt’s ongoing TVET reforms, notably the EU-supported TVET Egypt Reform Programme and the creation of Sector Skill Councils. These initiatives align closely with India’s scalable, cost-effective models of skill development.

Both sides acknowledged the success of ongoing collaborative efforts, including:

  • The 2024 MoU between India’s NIELIT and Egypt’s Information Technology Institute,

  • The partnership between Egypt’s El-Sewedy Group and Amity University,

  • The Indian-supported Vocational Training Centre in Cairo.

Looking to the future, India and Egypt identified new areas for expanded cooperation. Key proposals include the launch of joint certification programs, faculty and student exchange initiatives, collaborative digital skilling and entrepreneurship programs, and the creation of Centres of Excellence in key sectors such as information technology, agriculture, tourism, and green skills.

Both delegations reaffirmed their shared commitment to developing a globally competitive, future-ready workforce. They also emphasized using the India-Egypt collaboration as a model for broader South-South cooperation, aiming to set new benchmarks in international partnerships for skill development and education.
