Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has named Gaurav Banerjee, formerly of Disney Star, as its new CEO, succeeding NP Singh, who recently announced his departure from SPNI India.
Livemint reported the news, citing a source familiar with the matter.
NP Singh, a veteran of 25 years at Sony, hinted at the search for his successor, aligning with his recent announcement.
During his tenure at Disney Star, Banerjee oversaw content for Hindi entertainment and Disney+ Hotstar. He also held the position of business head for Star Bharat, with responsibilities spanning Hindi and English movies, kids & infotainment, and regional channels in the eastern region.
As per the Disney Star website, Gaurav played a pivotal role in shaping their diverse entertainment portfolio. His purview included entertainment curation for Disney+ Hotstar across multiple languages, original series, and films. Additionally, he led content for Hindi Entertainment TV, which boasted six of the top ten shows in the market on Star Plus. He also managed renowned TV brands such as Star Gold, Star Jalsha, Star Bharat, and National Geographic Channel.
Gaurav served on the board of directors of the Indian Broadcasting & Digital Federation, a forum for media leaders in the country, and on the core technical committee of BARC India, the organization responsible for measuring television ratings in India.
