Mumbai, December 23, 2025: Legendary Bollywood playback singer Kumar Sanu has filed a ₹50 crore defamation suit against his former wife, alleging that defamatory statements made by her have caused severe damage to his reputation and professional standing.
The lawsuit, filed through his legal counsel Advocate Sana Raees Khan, claims that the remarks in question have resulted in irreparable harm to Kumar Sanu’s goodwill, which he has built over decades as one of India’s most celebrated voices in the music industry.
Claims of Reputational Damage and Mental Harassment
According to the legal filing, Kumar Sanu asserts that the allegedly false and malicious statements have not only tarnished his public image but have also led to mental harassment and emotional distress. The suit further mentions that these remarks have adversely affected his professional opportunities and social reputation, both in India and internationally.
Filed before the appropriate court, the defamation suit highlights that the statements made are “baseless, defamatory, and unsubstantiated”, and have been made with the intent to malign the singer’s legacy.
Legal Representation and Relief Sought
Represented by Advocate Sana Raees Khan, Kumar Sanu has sought ₹50 crore in damages as compensation for the losses he claims to have suffered due to the defamatory allegations.
Through this legal action, the singer aims to safeguard his artistic legacy, protect his personal and professional integrity, and ensure accountability for statements that allegedly caused unwarranted harm.
