The Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) has officially opened what is now India’s longest cantilever glass skywalk, atop Kailasagiri hilltop park, marking a major boost for tourism in the coastal city. The new walkway is already drawing attention from adventure seekers and travellers alike.
The glass skywalk — built at a cost of ₹7 crore — offers visitors sweeping, panoramic views of the city, the Eastern Ghats and the distant Bay of Bengal from nearly 1,000 feet above sea level. Its unique cantilever design makes it feel as if one is suspended mid-air, adding a thrilling dimension to the sightseeing experience.
Constructed using high-strength, tempered glass and reinforced steel, the skywalk is engineered to withstand high winds — up to 250 km/h — a necessary safety measure in a coastal region prone to cyclonic weather. Although structurally capable to support more than 100 people at once, to maintain comfort and safety the VMRDA caps visitor numbers at 40 persons per batch.
Officials expect the new skywalk will quickly become a signature attraction for both domestic and international tourists, adding to Visakhapatnam’s appeal as a rising adventure-tourism and holiday destination.
