New York, July 2025 — Global sandwich chain Subway has announced the appointment of Jonathan Fitzpatrick as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective July 28, 2025, in a strategic move aimed at accelerating global growth and boosting sales performance.
Fitzpatrick brings with him extensive leadership experience in the quick-service restaurant (QSR) and franchising industries. Most recently, he served as President and CEO of Driven Brands, a leading automotive services company. His professional background also includes key leadership roles at Burger King, where he held titles such as Executive Vice President and Chief Brand and Operations Officer. His time at Burger King helped him refine his skills in brand development, operational scaling, and international market expansion.
This leadership transition follows nearly two years after Subway was acquired by Roark Capital, a prominent private equity firm, in a deal estimated to be worth up to $9.55 billion, including debt.
Fitzpatrick will take the reins from John Chidsey, who stepped down at the end of 2024 after serving as CEO for five years. Chidsey’s tenure was marked by key initiatives in brand modernization and digital transformation. During the transition phase, Fitzpatrick will work closely with Interim CEO Carrie Walsh to ensure continuity and a seamless leadership handover.
Subway’s new leadership is expected to focus on revitalizing the brand’s global presence, strengthening franchise operations, and enhancing the customer experience across all markets.
