slice, a fast-growing digital-first bank that aspires to become India’s most loved bank, has appointed Eugene Emmanuel Karthak, former Executive Director at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), as Part-time Chairman and Independent Director of its Bank Board.
Strong Governance for slice’s Growth Journey
Mr. Karthak had earlier served on the board of Garagepreneurs Internet Private Limited (GIPL), slice’s parent entity prior to its banking merger. His continued association reflects stability and strong governance during a crucial phase of the company’s expansion.
With over three decades of experience at RBI, Mr. Karthak has led key departments including Information Technology and Corporate Services, and also served as Regional Director in Delhi and Bengaluru, where he strengthened regulatory compliance across multiple financial institutions. He was also part of several high-level RBI committees.
Leadership Across Indian Banking
Beyond RBI, Mr. Karthak has held significant governance positions as RBI Nominee Director at Andhra Bank and Independent Director at Jana Small Finance Bank. He currently heads the Indian Institute of Bank Management (IIBM), a premier training institute sponsored by RBI, NABARD, and public sector banks. Additionally, he serves on the Governing Council of CAFRAL (Centre for Advanced Financial Research and Learning), Mumbai.

The appointment comes as slice accelerates its mission to create India’s most inclusive digital bank. In recent months, the company has launched physical branches in Bengaluru and Gurugram, introduced the UPI-enabled credit card, and generated over 400 new jobs in Northeast India, advancing financial inclusion and regional growth.
