Vice-Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi Named as Next Chief of Naval Staff

The government has appointed Vice-Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi as the successor to Admiral R. Hari Kumar, who will retire on April 30. Born on May 15, 1964, Vice-Admiral Tripathi joined the Indian Navy’s Executive Branch on July 1, 1985. He currently holds the position of Vice Chief of the Indian Navy (VCNS).

Specializing in Communication and Electronic Warfare, Vice-Admiral Tripathi boasts nearly 39 years of distinguished service. Before his tenure as VCNS, he served as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command.

Throughout his career, Vice-Admiral Tripathi has held various Command, Staff, and Instructional roles. He has commanded INS ‘Vinash’, ‘Kirch’, and ‘Trishul’. Additionally, he has undertaken significant operational and staff duties, including serving as Fleet Operations Officer of the Western Fleet and Director of Naval Operations.

As Rear Admiral, he led the Eastern Fleet and later served as Commandant of the prestigious Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, and Chief of Personnel in NHQs.

A graduate of the Sainik School Rewa and NDA Khadakwasla, Vice-Admiral Tripathi has completed courses at DSSC Wellington, Naval War College Goa, and Naval War College USA. He has been honored with the Ati Vishist Seva Medal (AVSM) and Nau Sena Medal (NM).
