Ashok Vaswani has taken the helm as the Managing Director and CEO of Kotak Mahindra Bank, succeeding Dipak Gupta, who served as the interim MD and CEO after the departure of Uday Kotak, the bank’s founder director, on September 1, 2023.
Before assuming this leadership role at Kotak Mahindra Bank, Vaswani held the position of President at Pagaya, a financial technology company based in the United States. Uday Kotak, the founder of Kotak Mahindra Bank, expressed his satisfaction with the Reserve Bank of India’s approval of Vaswani as the next CEO. Kotak praised Vaswani as a world-class leader and banker with a strong focus on digitalization and customer satisfaction.
Uday Kotak shared his excitement about bringing a ‘Global Indian’ like Vaswani back to lead Kotak Mahindra Bank and contribute to shaping the future of both the bank and India. Vaswani, with over three and a half decades of experience, specializes in various areas, including retail strategy building, financial services, business analysis, commercial banking, and credit risk.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce, economics, and accountancy from the Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics at Bombay University. Additionally, he is a certified Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and a company secretary accredited by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India.
