Prolgae Spirulina, a maker and marketer of superfood spirulina to the country’s food and medical industries, has received a $200K seed funding round from angel investor Vijayan. The company intends to triple its production capacity and introduce new goods as a result of this investment.
In 2022, the business plans to introduce new spirulina-based foods and beverages. It has also recently released spirulina-based protein bars, desserts, and other products in three flavours.
Aakas, an aeronautical engineer from Kumaraguru College of Technology in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, was swept up in the startup craze in 2015. When he was looking for new business ventures, he came across stories of malnutrition, which is a problem in India and Africa. Aakas discovered that Spirulina can aid in the treatment of malnutrition throughout his studies.
“We are going to increase our monthly production from 500 kilogram to 1500 kilogram by adding some new spirulina production ponds,” said Aakas Sadasivam, the founder of the company.
