Sonatype

Sonatype®, a global leader in end-to-end software supply chain security, has officially opened a state-of-the-art Innovation Center in Hyderabad, India. This strategic expansion is part of the company’s vision to accelerate AI-driven software development and strengthen its commitment to securing modern software, which is increasingly built on open-source and AI-generated code.

Hyderabad: A Strategic Hub for Software Innovation
The new Innovation Center marks a pivotal step in Sonatype’s global growth strategy. The company has a long-standing reputation for groundbreaking solutions, including the Nexus Repository, trusted by over 15 million developers worldwide, and for managing Maven Central, the largest open-source Java repository.

As more than 80% of modern software code now consists of open-source and AI-generated components, Sonatype’s comprehensive security platform is uniquely positioned to protect the entire software development lifecycle against evolving cybersecurity threats.

Mitchell Johnson, Chief Product Development Officer at Sonatype, commented:
“India is home to one of the world’s largest and most dynamic open-source and AI development communities. By establishing our Innovation Center in Hyderabad, we are forging stronger connections with this rapidly growing ecosystem while enhancing our global capabilities. Access to India’s exceptional engineering talent will allow us to deliver faster, smarter, and more resilient solutions to our customers and partners worldwide.”

Building a World-Class Engineering Hub
The Hyderabad Innovation Center will accommodate over 200 professionals, including engineers, product managers, security researchers, and AI specialists. The center will play a critical role in accelerating product development, enhancing AI functionalities, and offering round-the-clock global customer support.

Abhishek Chauhan, recently appointed as Head of India and Senior Director of Technology, will lead the India operations. Chauhan brings extensive expertise in software security, having previously held key positions at Lending Tree and Wells Fargo.

“Sonatype has consistently led innovation in the software security space, from Maven Central to patented AI-driven technologies,” said Chauhan. “I’m proud to lead the India team during this exciting phase of growth. With this new center, we are not just advancing technology—we are also nurturing the next generation of software engineering leaders who will shape the future of secure development.”

Reinforcing Software Security Standards in India
As a founding member of the Open Source Security Foundation (OpenSSF), Sonatype has been instrumental in shaping global cybersecurity regulations and best practices for more than two decades. The company is now actively supporting Indian organizations as they adopt emerging frameworks such as CERT-IN guidelines, Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) compliance, and the SEBI Cyber Resilience Framework.

Sonatype’s expansion into India demonstrates its commitment to becoming a long-term partner for organizations looking to enhance their software security posture while embracing rapid digital and AI advancements.
