In a significant move towards promoting online safety and responsible gaming, the E-Gaming Federation (EGF), India’s leading industry body for skill-based gaming, has partnered with Social & Media Matters to roll out a nationwide campaign aimed at educating young adults on healthy gaming practices. This initiative, targeting college students in 30 colleges across Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh, seeks to enhance awareness around responsible gaming and online safety.
The Importance of Responsible Gaming
With online gaming rapidly gaining popularity in India, especially among the youth, the need for responsible gaming has never been more critical. As online gaming becomes an integral part of digital entertainment, the EGF is committed to promoting safe, fair, and transparent gaming practices. The initiative underscores the industry’s focus on educating players about moderation, healthy gaming habits, and the importance of balancing gaming with other aspects of life.
Workshops to Promote Awareness and Safe Gaming Habits
The first phase of the campaign will roll out in Tamil Nadu, followed by other states. The program includes interactive workshops, each lasting 90 minutes, designed to engage college students in a fun and educational environment. These workshops will feature quizzes, games, and giveaways to reinforce key concepts about responsible gaming.
Participants will be introduced to the following key elements of responsible gaming:
- Understanding Healthy Gaming Habits: Educating students on how to play games in moderation and set personal limits.
- Identifying Problem Gaming: Helping students recognize signs of problematic gaming behaviors.
- The Importance of Balancing Gaming with Life: Encouraging students to manage their time effectively, ensuring gaming doesn’t interfere with their studies, social life, or physical health.
- Online Safety and Parental Controls: Offering insights into protecting minors and promoting the use of parental control tools to ensure a safe online experience.
Upon completing the workshop, students will receive a certificate of completion, acknowledging their commitment to responsible gaming.
Empowering Young Adults for a Safer Online Gaming Experience
Anuraag Saxena, CEO of EGF, emphasized the importance of responsible gaming, stating, “Responsible gaming is the cornerstone of a thriving online gaming industry. This initiative goes beyond mere awareness; it equips players with tools to make healthier, safer choices, ensuring a sustainable gaming ecosystem.”
The campaign not only aims to foster better gaming habits but also seeks to address the rising concerns around problem gaming and its potential impact on mental health. By equipping young adults with knowledge about international best practices in responsible gaming, the program aims to create a more informed and conscientious gaming community.
