Schneider Electric, a leader in digital transformation for energy management and automation, has partnered with the Water Resources Department of Maharashtra to enhance awareness among officials about modernizing water and wastewater (WWW) management through advanced digital technologies. This collaboration extends Schneider Electric’s support for the Ministry of Jal Shakti’s initiatives to accelerate technology adoption for sustainable water management in India.
India faces a critical issue with approximately 40% water loss due to leaks, placing immense pressure on its water resources and threatening economic progress. Schneider Electric aims to tackle these challenges by advancing sustainability, efficiency, and resilience in the water sector through its strategic partnership with the Government of Maharashtra.
The partnership underscores Schneider Electric’s dedication to responsible water management. By fostering awareness and promoting the adoption of innovative digital technologies, the company seeks to improve efficiency, productivity, and sustainability in water management practices.
Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure IoT platform delivers real-time data, analytics, and professional services to enhance water consumption efficiency, reduce leaks, and optimize distribution. It also provides advanced diagnostics and seamless IT/OT integration for future-proof operations.
Key dignitaries at the event included Sanjay Khandare, IAS, Principal Secretary of the Water Supply & Sanitation Department, Sanjay Belsare, Secretary of Project Coordination at the Water Resources Department, and Aman Mittal, IAS, Deputy Secretary of the Water Supply & Sanitation Department. They convened to address the urgent need for integrating digital technologies to develop a sustainable water network.
“Integrating digital solutions into water management practices can lead to more efficient, resilient, and sustainable use of water and energy resources, addressing challenges like population growth, urbanization, and climate change,” stated Sanjay Belsare, IAS, Secretary-CAD, Water Resources Department.
Aman Mittal, IAS, Deputy Secretary, emphasized the need for mass awareness about the potential of digital technologies for effective water management. Digital solutions such as data analytics, IoT sensors, remote monitoring systems, and predictive modeling can improve water distribution, predict extreme weather events, and enhance decision-making. AI and machine learning can analyze water data for better management, while drones and remote sensing can map and assess water bodies. Chatbots can also provide personalized water conservation advice.
Arvind Kakru, Vice President – Industrial Automation, Greater India at Schneider Electric, remarked, “At Schneider Electric, we believe India’s progress in water conservation and innovation is vital for its developmental goals. Effective water management translates to energy conservation, which secures our future. Our collaboration with the Water Resources Department aims to break the cycle of waste and create a circular system for efficient management. Together, we are committed to maximizing every drop, driving innovation to combat wastage, and paving the way for a sustainable future.”
Additionally, Schneider Electric has joined forces with the Ministry of Jal Shakti to develop a skill development program for eco-warriors. This program will train individuals in next-gen technologies for water governance, management of treatment plants, and sustainable practices, including digital technologies for water conservation and desalination.
