Netflix is forming its own in-house game studio and wants to go beyond relying on third-party developers to bolster its game catalog. The Helsinki, Finland-based studio intends to provide “world-class” original games free from advertisements and in-app purchases.
In order to enter the gaming market, Netflix acquired a number of developers, including Night School Studio, the company that made Oxenfree. The studio has provided some well-regarded games in the past 12 months, including as Into the Breach and Poinpy. However, a developer has not been created from scratch. Before now.
Netflix claims that it will take “years” before we start seeing the first original games produced by its internal company.
